"U,S News & World Report"가 올해 미국 내 최고의 병원들에 대한 "Honor Roll"을 발표했다. 올해 1위는 존스홉킨스병원(Johns Hopkins Hospital)으로 19회 연속 1위에 오르는 기염을 토했다.
　채점 기준은 사망률, 환자의 만족도, 진료관계 요소 등 객관적인 수치들과 함께 병원의 명성 등 주관적인 인식도도 반영했다.

"U,S News & World Report"는 이번 순위가 작은 규모의 사람들을 대상으로 조사했지만, 높은 수준의 의료서비스를 원하는 소수에게는 의미있는 자료가 될 것이라고 밝혔다. 이와함께 이번 순위가 일반적인 치료를 받는 사람들 모두에게 영향을 주는 것은 아니라는 점을 명확히 했다.

　미국병원협회(American Hospital Association) 릭 웨이드(Rick Wade) 상임부회장은 "이 목록에서 상위권 병원들은 교육을 함께 진행하는 병원으로 최신의 연구·기술이 있는 곳"이라고 말했다. 하지만 이 목록이 절대적인 영향력이 있는 것은 아니라고 지적했다.

　펜실베니아대학(University of Pennsylvania)의 아더 캐플란(Arthur Caplan) 교수도 이 순위가 현실적인 수치와는 거리가 있는 추상적인 순위라는 점을 강조했다. 또한 "이 순위는 대부분의 사람들에게 쓸모가 없을 것"이라고 덧붙여 병원 이용자들이 이 순위에 흔들리지 말것을 충고했다.
