A study from the Washington University in St. Louis published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, Jan. 21, enrolled 177 adults of 60 years and above and found that almost 70%, who took antidepressant Lexapro for 12 weeks, improved in anxiety symptoms and social functioning compared with 51% in the placebo group. Remarkable is that participants with high blood pressure taking Lexapro had a significant decrease in blood pressure, suggesting additional health-related benefits. Lexapro, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) is produced by Forest Laboratories Inc.
