KCDC announces total of 9,976 infections, 169 deaths

South Korea Thursday reported 89 additional new coronavirus patients from the day prior, bringing the total to 9,976 cases.

According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC), most of the cases came from Daegu (21 patients), Gyeonggi Province (17 patients), and Seoul (14 patients). Patients were also confirmed in Incheon, Gwangju, Gangwon Province, Chungcheong Province, Jeollanam-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and Gyeonsangnam-do.

All confirmed patients have been put into quarantine. Currently about 4,000 people are under isolation.

The KCDC also reported that four have died Thursday, including a medical personnel who was receiving in-patient treatment for the coronavirus. The death toll currently stands at 169.

About 260 people have been released from quarantine, bringing the total number of patients released to 5,828 people.

The news comes as the global number of infected topped 938,000 and total deaths stood at about 47,200 Thursday. Most of the infections were reported from the U.S. (216,722 patients), Italy (110,574 patients), Spain (104,118 patients) and China (82,394 patients).

Italy Thursday grimly reported a total of 13,155 deaths. Spain also reported a total of 9,387 deaths, and France 4,032 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University's coronavirus map.
