Medical school students continued to support their seniors taking the national medical examination - called the Korean Medical Licensing Examination (KMLE)  - in the pouring rain.

The Korea Health Personnel Licensing Examination Institute (KHPLEI) will carry out the 84th KMLE in 2020 at eight test centers nationwide for seven to eight days. According to the KHPLEI, more than 3,000 candidates will take the written test nationwide.

The Medical Observer uncovered the buzzwords and hot topics this year by visiting the campuses of several medical schools in Korea.

The main gate of Yongsang Technical High School in Yongsang-gu, Seoul, which is one of the test centers, was plastered with pickets and signs made by medical school students to cheer on their seniors.

Korean Medical Association’s (KMA) Chairman Choi Dae-zip and executives members also stood at the main gate of the examination center to encourage test takers.

The pickets prepared by the juniors of each medical school were quirky and diverse, showing the buzzwords and the latest trends of the year.

In 2018, pickets featured phrases popular with the Bitcoin craze, while in 2019, famous quotes from the trending K-drama “SKY Castle” took center place.

This year, "Pengsoo," a character popular with the youth, appeared in front of the school gate.

Many test-takers beamed as they passed by the pickets made by their juniors each year, being able to de-stress before the examination.

Despite the continual rain, examinees entered the test center with high hopes due to the cheers and coffee prepared by their junior colleagues.
